Sometimes You Get Lucky

One learns early in the oriental rug washing business, not to always trust the rug label. But it is interesting to see what is attached to hand woven rugs and blankets.

Various area rugs come to us for cleaning and rug repair. A nice bath makes everything feel better. This hooked rug was different though. It was wool and seemed to be more of a factory production than the American Hooked rugs we more commonly see.

This time the label helped me, I know right. It read CARMEL made in Occupied Japan. Some quick research pinpointed the era to a few years 1945-1952.

Everything about the rug added up. And the best part may be that this oriental rug belongs to friends and I wanted the best care for their area rug so from the beginning I had told them there was no charge. She can’t believe her luck either buying the rug at a thrift store. This is a Hooked Wool Rug from Japan, from a company that is still in the carpet business.

So sometimes we are so interested in learning about rug origin…and Sometimes the rugs turn out so well… we forget to take after photos.
